PLOT: Category E is a dark, satirical drama set inside an unnamed institutional system where people are sorted, processed, and defined by opaque classifications.
The play follows a group of individuals who find themselves labeled as “Category E”—a designation that is never clearly explained, but carries a strong sense of consequence. They are placed in a controlled environment overseen by officials who enforce rules that seem arbitrary, inconsistent, and increasingly unsettling.
As the characters interact, they try to make sense of their situation:
-
Why are they here?
-
What does “Category E” actually mean?
-
Is there a way out?
Some characters attempt to comply, believing that following the rules will lead to release. Others question the system, pushing back against its logic. Tensions build as alliances shift, authority is challenged, and the line between cooperation and survival begins to blur.
Meanwhile, those in charge maintain control through procedure rather than explanation, reinforcing a system that values categorization over humanity.
As the play progresses, the atmosphere becomes more claustrophobic and absurd. The lack of clarity around “Category E” becomes the central source of dread—suggesting that the label itself may be less important than the system’s need to impose it.
The play culminates not in clear resolution, but in a deepening sense of unease, leaving both the characters and the audience to confront a central question:
What happens when people are reduced to labels—and no one is willing, or able, to explain why?
