DATE: FEBRUARY 2018
LOCATION: Ajax Community Theatre
PLAYWRIGHT: Reginald Rose
DIRECTOR: Kevin Shaver
PRODUCER: Sarah-Liis Jones-Salonius
PLOT:
12 Angry Men by Reginald Rose takes place entirely in a jury deliberation room, where twelve jurors must decide the fate of a teenage boy accused of murdering his father. At first, the case appears open-and-shut, and most jurors are eager to deliver a quick guilty verdict. However, one juror votes “not guilty”—not because he is convinced of the boy’s innocence, but because he believes the evidence deserves careful discussion before a life is decided.
As tensions rise, the jurors begin to re-examine the testimony and their own assumptions, exposing personal biases, prejudices, and hidden motivations. What starts as a lone voice of doubt gradually shifts the room, as reasonable doubt emerges piece by piece. Through intense debate and moral confrontation, the jury moves toward a unanimous verdict, revealing how critical thinking, empathy, and courage can challenge even the most entrenched opinions.
