PLOT:
2 in the Aisle, 3 in a Van by Mary Lynn Dobson is a fast-paced comedy that follows a small, underfunded theatre troupe scraping together a summer touring production. With limited resources and oversized personalities, the company sets out to perform in a series of makeshift venues—often with only two actors onstage while three others wait (and bicker) in the van. From the outset, it’s clear that the real drama isn’t the play they’re performing, but the chaos happening behind the scenes.
As the tour progresses, tempers flare, egos clash, and romantic entanglements complicate an already fragile dynamic. Missed cues, questionable acting choices, and mounting frustrations push the group to the brink, all while they struggle to maintain the illusion of professionalism for their audiences. Through rapid-fire dialogue and escalating mishaps, the play becomes a love letter to—and a gentle roast of—community theatre, celebrating both the madness and the magic of putting on a show against all odds.
